Tragic Incident: Water Worker Passes Away in Repair

The leak in the Cutzamala Macrocircuit, which took place in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood in Los Olivos, Atizapán municipality, was caused by the rupture of an air release valve in one of the system's pipes. Residents and passersby shared images showing a column of water several meters high near the Chamapa-Lechería highway.

In response to the leak, the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM) announced maintenance work to repair it, which involved the total suspension of the flow to the Bellavista tank and the Madín II water treatment plant. This task impacted the water supply in 11 municipalities of the region.

The National Water Commission reported that the water supply to the State of Mexico and Mexico City has been increased by up to 2 cubic meters per second since September 21, thanks to the rains and proper management of water resources. The dams supplying the Cutzamala system are at about 66 percent of their capacity.

Amid these circumstances, the death of Israel Gutiérrez Chávez, a CAEM worker, was confirmed during the repair work of the leak. His colleagues from the Water Secretariat of Edomex and Sapasa of Atizapán de Zaragoza mourned his loss and highlighted his dedication to the tasks performed.
